Q: When should I use the Face Balm, Face Elixir and Eye Balm? Do I alternate them or use them together?
This is one of our most frequently asked questions and we’re so glad you asked.
Let’s start with the basics:
For sensitive skin or first-time users
If you’re new to Liminal or have sensitive skin, we recommend starting with the Sensitive Face Elixir.
It’s exactly the same as our Face Elixir, just without the added essential oils.
Which face product and when?
You don’t need to use the Face Elixir and Face Balm together. Both are designed to be your primary moisturiser, so layering them isn’t necessary as they offer similar benefits and ingredients, just in different textures.
- The Face Elixir is lighter weight, fast absorbing, and perfect for mornings, especially under sunscreen or makeup.
- The Face Balm is rich and protective and slower to melt into the skin, making it ideal for a night barrier, or whenever your skin needs a deeper hydration boost. (Also beautiful under makeup).
Have a play with the order, choose what your skin needs that day and experiment with the ritual that works for your skin.
What about the Eye Balm?
Our holy grail Eye Balm was created to be the perfect companion to your chosen face product. The Eye Balm is made specifically for the delicate eye area, with ingredients to help reduce puffiness, calm irritation, and brighten dark circles. We recommend it morning and night (and anytime in between).
Apply to the eye area first and then follow with your liminal face elixir, balm or tallow.
What about the Tallow Balm vs Original Balm?
This comes down to personal preference.
- The Original Face Balm uses herbal, plant-based oils and organic beeswax and it works beautifully for most skin types.
- The Tallow Balm includes grass-fed tallow, which is deeply nourishing and supportive of the skin barrier. Some people’s skin loves tallow, while others may prefer to avoid it.
If you're unsure, we recommend starting with the Sensitive Face Elixir and adding a sample of each of the balms to your order so you can see which is best for you.
Our Suggested Skincare Ritual
Morning:
After cleansing, apply the Eye Balm around the eye area.
Follow with the Facial Elixir. Warm 3-4 drops of the elixir oil in your hands and and gently massage into your face, neck and chest.
Evening:
After cleansing, apply the Eye Balm around the eye area.
Follow with your choice of Face Balm or Tallow Balm. Simply swipe the balm over your face and neck and leave to melt into your skin or massage in for an extra moment of calm.
And, of course, if you’d rather just stick to one face product morning and night, that’s completely fine too. There are no hard rules only suggestions based on what’s worked for our community.
