Where are Liminal products made?

Liminal products are hand made in Denmark, Western Australia.

Where do you source your tallow?

Our beef tallow is sourced from a small, trusted farm here in Western Australia with a long-standing farming heritage. The cattle are 100% grass-fed, pasture-raised, and free from hormones and antibiotics ~ which is very important to us when selecting ingredients that go directly onto the skin.

Does skin breakout or purge when starting a new product?

Yes, it's common. As your skin adjusts to potent ingredients, it may purge old impurities like oil and dirt, leading to temporary breakouts. This is a short-lived process and signifies a deep cleansing for clearer skin in the long term.

Why does this happen?
Introducing powerful ingredients accelerates skin turnover, expelling deep-seated impurities. Not everyone experiences this; it depends on skin sensitivity and pore buildup. The surface may show minor breakouts or flakiness before revealing fresh, youthful skin.

Does your product contain natural retinol?

Our products do not contain retinol (synthetic or otherwise). Instead, they are formulated with natural vitamin A–supportive oils that provide gentle skin-renewing benefits without the irritation often associated with retinoids.

We use carefully selected plant oils that are naturally rich in vitamin A precursors, including:

  1. Rosehip oil, which contains trans-retinoic acid precursors and provitamin A compounds
  2. Carrot seed oil, which is rich in beta-carotene — a form of provitamin A that the skin can convert into vitamin A as needed

These ingredients help support skin renewal, collagen health, and overall skin resilience in a retinol-free, skin-friendly way. While they offer antioxidant and regenerative benefits, they do not function in the same way as retinol, making them a gentler option for sensitive or reactive skin.

Our formulations are designed to work in harmony with the skin, helping to:

  1. Encourage healthy skin renewal
  2. Support collagen and elasticity
  3. Strengthen the skin barrier
  4. Reduce inflammation and oxidative stress

We believe in full transparency and choose ingredients that nourish and support the skin naturally — without synthetic actives or harsh retinoids.

What’s the difference between an allergy and a skin purge when starting new skincare?

When introducing products with natural Vitamin A and gentle botanical oils, it’s normal to wonder what your skin is supposed to do. Here’s how to tell the difference:

Skin Purge
A purge happens when active ingredients—like natural Vitamin A—speed up your skin’s renewal cycle. This can bring hidden congestion to the surface, showing up as small breakouts, tiny bumps, or increased oiliness.

Purging usually:

  1. Appears in areas you typically break out
  2. Looks like your usual type of congestion
  3. Improves within 2–6 weeks as your skin adjusts. If purging feels too intense, we recommend dropping to every second day until your skin settles.

Allergy or Sensitivity
An allergic reaction is your skin saying “this ingredient isn’t for me.” This can look and feel very different from a purge.

Allergies typically:

  1. Show up as redness, itchiness, burning, or rash-like patches
  2. Appear in new areas where you don’t normally break out
  3. Get worse the more you use the product
  4. Do not resolve with continued use

If you ever feel sharp stinging, hives, or swelling, discontinue use and patch test or seek advice.

At Liminal Elixirs, our formulas use gentle, carefully chosen botanical oils but every skin type is unique—listening to your skin is the best guide. We ALWAYS recommend purchasing a sample to test against your skin when first trying Liminal.

Does your product help with enlarged pores?

Carrot seed oil is a natural vitamin a and is also a wonderful skin toning and tightening agent. It can be used to minimise large pores and tighten up sagging skin.

Enlarged pores can be present due to a few different factors- genetics being one of them. Also when our skin is over producing oil it can sit in our pores and this is not the kind of oil we want as it’s clogging. Our product is non comedogenic and over time should balance your skin's oil production.

However like anything it’s not one size fits all.

Are your products pregnancy and breastfeeding safe?

Our products are made from the finest natural botanical ingredients. However we recommend always checking with your doctor or midwife before using any products containing essential oils.

What about scent, colour and texture variation?

All of our products have a deep earthy scent. If you are sensitive to scent, we highly recommend purchasing a sample first to ensure the product is right for you.

Colour and texture variations in the Elixirs are completely normal and may occur due to seasonal changes & growing conditions. We are always ensuring we source the best quality ingredients and therefore they may change from time to time.

It does not affect the efficiency or quality of our Elixir in any way.

Why does my balm look uneven or irregular on top?

Our balms are 100% handmade and hand-poured by real people, not machines. Because of this, slight variations in texture or appearance are completely normal—and a sign of a truly artisanal product.

We use organic, natural ingredients that can naturally react to:

  1. Temperature changes
  2. Seasonal ingredient variations
  3. Cooling and settling after pouring

As the balm sets, some ingredients may settle or cool at different rates, which can create a slightly uneven or textured surface. This does not affect the quality, safety, or effectiveness of the product in any way.

Think of it like homemade chocolate or candle wax—no two batches are ever exactly the same, and that uniqueness is part of the beauty.
